I don't know how many of you are fans of the show MythBusters, but I saw an episode recently where they were to break into a room through a glass door that was tempered glass. When they broke the glass it did not shatter.
Are any windows in the home made of tempered glass? It seems like it would be a good option as it would not shatter and make a huge mess to try and clean up if they ever break. |

| You can order laminated or tempered glass for your home. Code generally requires it for windows that are low to the ground, this includes patio doors. When we throw out old tempered glass at the dump we have fun tossing the panes around..........they hardly ever break! When tempered glass breaks it will break into 1000's of little pieces, while it's a pain to clean up, you are less apt to get cut. |

That does sound ideal for sliding glass doors. I have heard nightmare stories of kids running through the glass doors because they are playing and end up in the hospital with hundreds of cuts.
I have a 2 year old little boy and I would want to avoid that. |
