In this section I will provide a brief history of window glass and how the industry went from single pane (one layer) glass to energy efficient windows with 3 panes of glass. [/url] After reading this section you should have a good understanding of the benefits of triple pane glass over the outdated single and double pane windows.

With triple pane glass do the grills still go on the inside? Is there enough room?

Yes they manage to fit them between the layers of glass. A couple of weeks ago I toured the Park Avenue production line at the Thermal Industries plant in PA and actually witnessed them placing them in the windows. They are able to insert them and still fill the chamber with Krypton gas.

Is it the Krypton gas that makes windows fog up when they have lost their seal, or I guess the lack of gas?

It's happens when the seal is broken and moist air is able to enter between the glass.

Ah..Will is fog immediately when the seal is broken, or does it take a while?

I suppose it all depends on when the moist air can get between the glass.

I ask because here recently a window fogged up, but I am curious if it just went bad or was bad for a while and just now fogged up because of the cold moist weather.

The IGU (insulated glass unit) can fail before it is installed or 30+ years down the road. Many people are not aware when one of their IGU fails, they just think that their window(s) are dirty.

What is the average life time on windows? I am not sure, but I want to say they are the original windows on the house. I think our house is 10 years old, but we just moved in 1 year ago and already 2 of the windows have fogged since we purchased the house.

LOL, Most builders use cheap windows....they just have to look good until the house sells.

This is really good to know! I love the grills on the inside of my double pane windows and it's really nice to know they can also put those on the triple pane windows.
