Hi Everyone! I'm new to the forums and I would like to know if anyone has any advice for someone who has never replaced any windows before. Where should I start, how to compare, etc.

Thanks!

I would start by opening up your phone book and calling local companies to get prices and specifications on there windows. Then compare each one, make your decision, and you are done. I actually make it sound a lot easier than what it really is. Smile

First I would talk to neighbors and friends from church. Try to get someone to refer you a window company. You never know who you are going to get when you pick up a phone book. Depending on the size of your project you will have to put 50% down which can be alot of money. If you use your Visa you are protected a little more than just cutting a check. Bigger companies can carry alot of overhead ( building space and advertising). Try to find a medium sized company that works in your area. Many companies only deal with certain types of homes - high end or rental properties. Do your research and get addresses of home they have installed windows in. Maybe even an older installation to see if there work holds up. Last a company is only going to give you referals of happy customers that why I suggests to see there work first hand. When people ask us for referrals I often been asked if they were relatives. I recommend Alside , Great Lakes, and Vista windows. Good Luck

I agree... word of mouth is the best way to find the best place to order them from. You can get anyone from anywhere by just picking up a phone.
