|
|
Hello: I'm new to this group & this is my first posting here. I have a palladium style arch window in my home with double-paned glass. One of the "ribs", which is inside the 2 panes of glass, somehow came loose & I can't figure out how to put it back in its place. Seems like a really stupid deisgn to me. Anyway, does anyone out there have any ideas? BTW, these strips are non-metallic; I was hoping if they were, I could use a magnet to possibly shift it around. Anyway, thank you in advance for any suggestions you may have - Scott |

Scott,
How old is your window?
If you know who made it I would contact them about the warranty issue. Since the piece is between the two panes of glass there is no way to move it without breaking the seal and then your window would fog up.
If the original company does not honor the warranty some glass shops work with IGU's (insulated glass units). |

Thank you very much for your reply. The window is as old as my house which is about 25 or so years old. Unfortunately, I don't know who the manufacturer of the window is Maybe I'll take you up on your suggestion though & contact a local glass shop. Although it might cost & be more trouble than it's worth - Scott |

Scott,
I will end up costing you at least a few hundred. If you can check the window or your other windows to see if they have a label or maybe even your town hall to see if the brand name was stated on any of the permits when they were first installed.
I've seen people use white tape to "replace" their grills/grids..........it's a little tacky (no pun intended). |

A few hundred dollars? Maybe when the "Great Recession" has become a thing of the past & I can start spending money again In the meantime, I will look for a label. Thank you again! - Scott |

Under the assumption that the other windows in your home are the same brand, look on the side of your other window sashes. Generally only Andersen and Pella etch or label the corner of their glass.
If all else fails you can try to remove the inside trim that holds the glass in place, template it and shop around for a replacement unit. |
