I got an estimate for pella vinyl windows and ALL other companies have an install cost about $1500 less than Pella's cost.
I asked the sales rep why Pella's install cost is almost $3k and this is the reply I got:
"Pella pulls the frame and cuts back the sheet rock and wood return on the inside and slides the window in vs measuring the window a lot smaller and there is a stucco flange on the exterior of the window and it’s just pocket installed and a interior trim piece put on so you don’t see the gap inside. I can understand you feeling like it sounds like a lot more than what others charge and it can be, but they way we install takes about an extra 2 hours per opening. if you want to install the other way and downsize all the windows and have an the almond stucco flange over you cedar exterior we can come back out and re measure for that."
Is this a rip-off, are they just trying to sell me blinker fluid or rust proofing? |

When you say Pella, do you mean someone who buys them at Lowes or are you talking about a Pella store?
Assuming that you are talking about a Pella store, are your other estimates from other professional window companies (not bob with a pick up truck)?
How many windows are you having installed? |

yeah pella store not lowes
ive got ten 2 other estimates from 2 other reputable windows companies who also say their installers are in house but their install is the pocket install as my pella sales rep says.
ive mentioned to them pellas advanced install and they say its uneccessary but i dont know who to trust cause they have their own agenda
im getting 10 windows and a patio door installed |

It's really up to you, if you don't mind having smaller windows then it's not really an issue. I would guess that 90% + of our clients have us install windows inside of the sheetrock returns and they end up with a couple inches less of glass. There's really not a "correct way" it all comes down to meeting code and making your client happy. Since you are the client it's up to you
What brands have you looked at since I'm not a fan of Pella windows? |

ok cool thanks, so its not a gimmick - the advanced install allows larger windows and a better, cleaner look just like the pella sales rep say?
ive checked milgard, advanced, alumaline, and also checked lowes - of those i like milgard the most but im gonna stick with pella
thanks for your help |

Good luck and be sure to see if the Pella windows meet the $1500 federal tax savings requirements-- your salesperson should be able to help you with the details. |
